    Itinerary

    Day 1 -IQUIQUE
    Reception at Iquique’s Airport and transfer to Hotel. We will immediately begin with our Bay Tour, where it is possible to see an interesting variety of sea birds like Pelicans, Terns, Cormorants, Seagulls and others. Big Sea Lions resting on the rocks reside the port. From the sea you’ll have an impressive view of the cliffs of Coastal Mountain Range sinking directly into the Pacific Ocean. Talking about the history of the City yo u will learn about the importance of Iquique in our history and how this port –that was Peruvian- was taken by Chilean Forces during the War of the Saltpeter (Or War of the Pacific). In the afternoon we will have a walking tour around Baquedano Street, mos t of the Historical Buildings are in this street that is National Monument in all its extension. By night, we will offer a welcome dinner with an Andean show with a selection of traditional dances from the Religious celebrations like La Tirana or San Lore nzo de Tarapaca. Back to the Hotel. Lodging

    Day 2 -IQUIQUE
    Day excursion to Pisagua port. In the way we will visit the Geoglyph of the Atacama Giant; with an extension of almost 90 meters is the biggest anthropomorphic figure. Pisagua was one of the most important ports to export Saltpeter during the first half of the 20th Century. In days of the Military Government was used like a Political Prison, and in now days is a small fishermen port with only 200 inhabitants. Some old Buildings still remain. Box lunch included. After eating, will take a fishermen boat tour towards “Punta Pichalo”, this place is an exceptional place to observe a big colony of Sea Lions and the Rare Fur Sea Lions. Return to the Hotel in Iquique

    Day 3 -IQUIQUE – SALAR DE HUASCO
    In the morning we will visit the Ruins of the Saltpeter mines of Humberstone and Santa Laura, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2005, a special place to know about the hard life of the miners and their families in the driest desert of t he world 100 years ago. Lunch at Pozo Almonte, mining town in the middle of the desert. After, we will take a road up to the Andes, the landscape will change slowly during the accent and the vegetation and animals of the highlands will appear. Taking a de tour by an unpaved road will takes us directly to a wide basin surrounded by volcanoes and with shallow little salty lagoons. The Huasco Salt flat is a Ramsar site (Intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources). Dinner and lodging in a comfortable shelter located at 3800 meters of altitude and administrated by an Aymara family.

    Day 4 - SALAR DE HUASCO- IQUIQUE
    After breakfast we will walk on the shore of the Salt flat to appreciate some of the most representative birds of the Andean High plateau. Flamingoes (3 species), Andean Rhea, Andean Gull, Andean geese and many others. Lamas, Alpacas and maybe a lonely Andean Fox could be seen around. After this silent experience we will descend in our vehicle towards the oasis of Pica, an excellent place to enjoy a delicious natural juice made with the local fruits, like Mango, Guava, Passion Fruit, etc. Crossing the desert and on the s lopes of the Coastal Mountain Range we will find a large amount of Geoglyphs. Pintados is the biggest concentration of them in Chile. Our Lunch will be in a local restaurant next to ruins of another mining ghost town called Victoria. Transfer to the airpor t on time to take your flight to the next destination.
