    Itinerary:

    Day 1 : Guatemala City - Chichicastenango
In the morning, leave for Chichicastenango. On arrival visit the colorful open-air market and Church of Santo Tomas. The afternoon is at leisure for further shopping or to see the town on your own.

Day 2 : Chichicastenango - Lake Atitlan - Guatemala City
Leave for Lake Atitlan and a brief stop at the lake side village of Panajachel on the highway that circles the lake. Continue to Antigua, where you will visit sites such as churches, convents, monasteries, and other colonial buildings. Late in the afternoon return to Guatemala City.

    Chichicastenango
The Mayan Inn is located in the heart of Chichicastenango, within a block of one end of the famed market. It has been welcoming guests since 1932 when the late Alfred S. Clark first opened the Inn. Mr. Clark searched the country for colonial chests, figures, mirrors, chairs and benches creating a museum of Spanish art for it´s guests to enjoy. There are a total of 30 rooms, each its own museum. When you arrive you will be greeted by one of the Quiche-Maya attendants who will lead you to your room. Enter through a covered Spanish doorway where a warm fire greets you, along with many pieces of Spanish colonial art. There are 3 unique dining rooms for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a tasteful blend of international and local dishes for your enjoyment. The lounge and bar create a warm atmosphere for you to enjoy your favorite cocktail, wine or beer, all expertly prepared. Step outside and you´ll hear music - unusual, intriguing...it´s marimba being played in the patio. You´ll enjoy a walk through the many small patios with flowers, shrubs, sculptors from ancient Maya, exotic birds and other treasures. The Mayan Inn is perfect for a short stay, honeymoon or peaceful vacation If you wish to really have a cultural experience, stay at the Hotel Santo Tomas when you visit Chichicastenango. The collection of Spanish colonial art of this hotel is better than the collections of most major museums. The flowers in the patios rivals those of many botanical gardens. The macaws and parrots add an additional exotic touch. If you want to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the world-renowned Quiche Maya market days (Thursday and Sunday) then stay overnight either Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday. The Villa Grande Hotel is on the outskirts of Chichicastenango (on the left) as you drive towards the town. The setting is rural, a pleasant change from an urban situation. Banana plants and a milpa are on one side of the hotel, showing you how the local Quiche Maya still live. The hotel grounds are carefully maintained. Hibuscus bloom everywhere. I saw quite a variety of beautiful flowering plants including several I had never previously seen. Trees, shrubs, and lawn are everywhere, so again you are spared the painful reality of being in a concrete or asphalt urban area. From the hotel you can see the market area (to the right of the colorful cemetary) and one of the churches which mark the edge of the market square. Chichicastenango is not a rock-and-roll town and the Villa Grande Hotel is not the place find a lively bar to pick up a date for the evening. But if you prefer a secluded location and enjoy the healthy walk back and forth to town, then you ought to consider the Villa Grande. Of the three best hotels (this one, the Mayan Inn, and the Hotel Santo Tomas) I would estimate that the Villa Grande is the most economical in room price.
