Vermont is one of the most attractive states of New England. Located between the Canadian border, New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, Vermont is also known as The Green Mountain state. Vermont's peaceful beauty is unique in the Northeast. It is a place where farm fields still roll right up to the edge of villages and where lofty mountains and crystal clear lakes are everyday companions. Wild deer still occasionally browse on the lawn at the Vermont State House in Montpelier, and nature is close at hand everywhere.

Vermont's many small cities, from Burlington to Brattleboro, St. Andrews, Brandon and St.Albans are filled with interesting restaurants, shops and inns. You can spend an hour at a farmers' market, visit an artist's studio and cap the visit off with a stop nearby for a snack or fine food. Places like Barre, Bennington, Lyndonville, Rutland, Middlebury and Bellows Falls are treasure troves of 19th and even 18th century architecture.

Vermont also has some of the most beautiful and most accessible mountains in the U.S. Hiking here starts with Vermont's famed 265 mile Long Trail and the Vermont portion of the 2,000 mile Appalachian Trail. The Green Mountains are a hiker's dream, with trails for all abilities, whether you're a seasoned hiker or you just want to get away from it all for a day hike.

Several bicycle organizations conduct bike trips in Vermont. You travel by bicycle from town to town and stay at various bed and breakfast inns in those towns. You leave your car at the first place and either you do a circle trip and come back or the organization will drive you back to your starting place after the completion of your cycling trip. It is a great way to experience Vermont, see the numerous covered bridges, get great exercise and visit several bed and breakfast inns.
